In earlier days, lehengas were shorter skirts, stitched till the ankle
and wrapped around the waist. The tribal community used to wear such
short lehengas. Lehengas were commonly stitched between the knee and the
ankle.
The middleclass wore shorter lehengas whereas the richer class wore
very long lehengas. Depending on preference, the lehengas were stitched
ankle length or left flowing in the ground which adds to the
sophistication.
What are the sections of a lehenga?
It
has 3 sections- the skirt with lots of gher called the lehenga, the
choli or the blouse and the dupatta. The lehenga should have a lot of
pleats and is stitched in chiffon, cotton, georgette, faux gerorgette,
net and tissue. These lehengas are further adorned with beautiful
intricate embroidery and tie and dye patterns to enhance the bright
coloured lehenga.
